Clemency Task Force News Today

Bangor Daily News. November 1, 2023.

BOSTON — Gov. Maura Healey on Tuesday rolled out new executive clemency guidelines as she recommended pardons for two more individuals convicted of crimes decades ago.

Historic new rules provide renewed hope for second chances in a long-stagnant system.

Healey’s decision to issues pardons so early in her first term would mark a major break from her immediate predecessors, who often waited until the final year or months of their tenures — if at all — to act on clemency petitions.

Clemency, racial justice should have to wait for a governor's final days.
