Tigers Selected for WNIT, Take on Ohio in Charlotte

Clemson, S.C. – The 2020-21 season continues for Clemson women’s basketball, as the Tigers were selected for the 2021 WNIT, it was announced on Monday night. Clemson will take on Ohio on Friday afternoon at 2:00 PM in the second game of the Charlotte regional. The Tigers received an at-large berth into the WNIT after posting an 11-13 overall record and earning a spot in the ACC Quarterfinals. The Tigers, currently 64 th in the NET rankings, earned wins over NCAA Tournament participants Florida State, Syracuse, Wake Forest and Mercer en route to their WNIT appearance. Second team All-ACC performer Delicia Washington leads the Tigers into the postseason, averaging 15.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. All-ACC Freshman Team member Gabby Elliott is second on the team in scoring at 13.3 points per game and sharpshooter Kendall Spray leads the Tigers from beyond the arc with 64 made threes on the year.

Three Tigers in Top 10 after Two Rounds of Valspar Collegiate Clemson, SC Jacob Bridgeman, Turk Pettit and Colby Patton all shot 36-hole scores of three-under-par 139 on Monday to lead Clemson to a tie for sixth place out of 11  teams at the Valspar Collegiate at the Floridian Golf Course in Palm City, Florida. The field includes six of the top 10 teams in the nation. Clemson had a team total of 563 on Monday, the same total as seventh-ranked Arizona State and 29 th ranked South Florida.    Tenth-ranked SMU has the team lead at 551, followed by top-ranked Florida State at 554.  Third-ranked Wake Forest is third at 556 and Ohio State is fourth at 558.   Fourth-ranked Pepperdine is fourth at 560.

Barton Breaks Record, Six Tigers Earn All-American Status Saturday FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Laurie Barton, Terryon Conwell and Trishauna Hemmings each garnered first-team All-American honors at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday. Barton finished 2nd in the women’s 800 meters after running 2:01.21, Conwell placed 7th in the men’s 200 meters after sprinting to a final time of 21.09, and Hemmings finished 8th in the women’s 60m hurdles after crossing the line in 8.16.  A world-class effort by Barton in the 800m saw her set a new school record following her effort Saturday night. Natoya Goule previously held the record after running 2:01.64 to win the 2015 indoor national title for the event. On Saturday, Barton had splits of 28.65-29.91-30.93-31.74 to finish as runner-up. Barton’s eight points are the most scored by a Clemson athlete at indoor nationals since Goule’s title-winning run. This was the second school record Barton has set this year, break

Tigers Sweep Fourth Consecutive Series; Win 13th Straight

Photos by Daniel Brandalise, Clemson Athletics CLEMSON, S.C.  The Clemson Softball team (16-2, 8-2 ACC) scored at least one run in the first four innings of its second game of the day at McWhorter Stadium in an 8-1 win over Furman. With the win, the Tigers’ earned their fourth consecutive series sweep and 13th win in a row. Clemson second-year freshman righty Valerie Cagle, the ACC’s wins leader, improved to 10-1 on the season after pitching 4.0 innings without surrendering a single earned run in Saturday’s second contest. Offensively, the Tigers were led by shortstop Ansley Gilstrap, who went 2-for-3 at the plate and tallied a game-high three RBIs.

Tigers Down Furman to Win 12th Straight

CLEMSON, S.C.  The Clemson Softball team (15-2, 8-2 ACC) won its 12th straight game in a 5-0 win over Furman in McWhorter Stadium Saturday afternoon. With the win, Clemson clinched the series over the Paladins, having won Friday’s contest, 8-0. Clemson’s Valerie Cagle and Grace Mattimore led the Tigers’ effort as both recorded a pair of RBIs. Clemson lefty freshman Millie Thompson (1-1) earned her first career win in the circle after pitching 5.0 innings without allowing a single run, and surrendered only two Paladin hits. Freshman righty Regan Spencer entered in relief of Thompson in the top of the sixth and retired all five batters she faced.
