still at 9.5%. with us now cnbc s hampton peerson to explain. thanks to the census, there s a net loss. tell us the details. well first of all, a net loss of census workers, they dropped out as of last month and a private sector gain of 71,000. back to the headline number, chuck, 9.5% unemployment unchanged. the reason is, frankly, fewer people actively looking for work last month and we had this big decline overall in payroll jobs of 131,000. the other thing, too, to drill down a little more on the private sector jobs, we had revisions for two months of may and june showing that essentially we had 97,000 fewer jobs than had been previously reported. an additional loss of those including loss of an additional 34,000 jobs in the private sector. and again, drilling down on that private sector figures so far 630,000 private sector jobs created. so far this year but the lion s share of those back in march and april. so as you said, economy in neutral. job growth stuck across th
