El Dorado’s success on the track this season has been a team effort. Going into the 5A South Conference Meet on Tuesday at Lake Hamilton, Coach John Koonce will be looking for some individual performances to spark the squad.
Senior Kamille Moore will compete in the long jump and triple jump this week. Koonce hopes she can maintain the high levels she’s produced lately.

The cross country season is only two weeks old and El Dorado has already established itself as a contender in the senior high boys division. Junior Zachary McMillon has won the first two events, including the 5,000 meters at SAU’s Lois Davis Invitational on Saturday.
But Coach John Koonce needs five runners to contend for team success. The Wildcats had three runners finish in the top 10 on Saturday, including Riley Dumas in fifth and sophomore Charlie Conner, who placed seventh.
El Dorado’s cross country program has been quietly running in the right direction. Under the guidance of Coach John Koonce, the Wildcats could be the best ever at the school this season.
“If everything holds, it’ll be the best varsity boys’ team we might’ve ever had. They’re looking very good,” said Koonce.
Carshaila Rozier left some big spikes to fill when she graduated after leading El Dorado to its first girls track and field state title. When Coach John Koonce was asked before the season who would take over that workload, he answered without hesitation - Zyron Brock.
Just a sophomore, Brock won’t be asked to duplicate everything Rozier did last season. But, so far, she’s done everything asked of her and then some.
