medicine to get an idea about this kind of injury and what it can be done to remedy it. we can see this is the acl in the middle of the knee. reporter: the acl is a small piece of connective tissue inside the knee. using a model and sketches dr. brian senate walked us through what might have gone wrong inside of carson wentz s left knee. a tear can occur as an athlete plants a foot and pivots. the foot is planted the body rotates and that s when the acl tears. reporter: the good news it can be repaired. a trip of tend can become a graph. holes are drilled above and below the knee. the graft is threaded through the holes anchored by screws and in time senate says the replacement acl will actually be stronger than the original. this is an injury where it will require surgery and it will require a rehabilitation but you expect him to be back on the playing field next year and that he will make a full recovery from this. reporter: within days maybe even just hours of
