KATHMANDU, May 1: Tea produced in Nepal has won the title of the ‘World’s Best Tea’ in the World Tea Expo 2024 organized in Las Vegas, USA.

Until mid-March, the export of orthodox tea to China jumped 88.31 percent. Insiders say the opening of Chinese market to Nepali tea is significant.

At present, the major market for Nepali CTC tea or black tea is India. Nepal exports around 90 percent of its orthodox tea and 50 percent of its CTC tea to India at low price tags.

KARNALI, Jan 6: A provincial level discussion was held on the feasibility of tea and coffee farming in Karnali. The discussion in Birendranagar on Friday was organized by the National Tea and Coffee Development Board in coordination with Siddhartha Multipurpose Cooperatives Limited Surkhet.

Experts say effective standards would benefit local producers who are compelled to sell their produce at lower prices because of low quality.

ILAM, Jan 2: Tea picking in districts like Ilam, known for tea production, has stopped with the arrival of winter, halting the production of green tea. Since mid-December (Poush), tea production has come to a halt, prompting farmers to begin pruning the tea plants. The tea production hub in winter has been completely shut down since Poush.

Stakeholders have alerted towards the tea industry, the largest foreign exchange earner after cardamom, facing a crisis.

KATHMANDU, Nov 26:  Tea worth about Rs 1.5 billion rupees was exported in the first four months of the current fiscal year.

Coffee imports jumped 155 percent to Rs325.86 million in the last fiscal year. Nepal imported 450.29 tonnes of coffee in the review period.
