MIT Festival of Learning 2023 keynote speaker Bror Saxberg focused on how well-designed learning environments that use learning engineering can increase learning success, as supported by learning science research and his experiences at LearningForge LLC and Kaplan Inc.

This paper presents a novel digital method of capturing finger-based gestures on touchscreen devices for the purposes of exploring tracing gestures in educational research. Given that tracing has been found to support cognition, learning and problem-solving in educational settings, data related to the performance of these gestures is increasingly of interest to researchers. Most educational research methods exploring the use of hand gestures rely on in-person data collection, whether through dir...

Background: Inconsistent observations of pupillary response and blink change in response to different specific tasks raise questions regarding the relationship between eye measures, task types and working memory (WM) models. On the one hand, studies have provided mixed evidence from eye measures about tasks: pupil size has mostly been reported to increase with increasing task demand while this expected change was not observed in some studies, and blink rate has exhibited different trends in diff...

Down, this real decline, as if its a plane that is landing with a very gentle arc, is what we mean. we need to protect ourselves from all of the overstimulation and cognitive load that we get from strains, work, people. and we must have at least an hour to have a ban on stressful things, discussions about work. and making a list before bed, organizing us for tomorrow. mondays are rough transitions for a lot of people. and doing something calm before going to bed, as rhonda talked about, deep bre...

Many large-scale, school-based interventions have attempted to improve academic performance through promoting students’ growth mindset, defined as the belief that one’s intellectual ability can increase with practice and time. However, most have shown weak to no effects. Thus, it is important to examine how growth mindset might affect retention and transfer of learning, as well as process-related variables such as cognitive load. In a double-blind, randomized controlled experiment based on 1...
