May 28, 2021 New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley is far from finished adding awards and accolades to his collection of achievements. And this year, Barkley has another opportunity to add to his awards, albeit an award he probably never envisioned himself being eligible to win: NFL Comeback Player of the Year. Barkley, rehabbing from a torn ACL, is listed as a 6/1 favorite by BetOnline.ag to win the Comeback Player of the Year honors. Listed just ahead of him is Cowboys quarterback Dak P...

Cleveland Browns: Lead Writer Predicts Rebound Year From Odell Beckham Jr. For as good as the Browns offense was last year, it could have been better. Cleveland played more than half the season without star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. after he suffered a torn ACL. Quarterback Baker Mayfield played his best football down the stretch, seemingly taking off once Beckham left. That reignited trade rumors about the three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, who hasnt quite been the same since Cleveland t...

May 22, 2021 After a few weeks with just a few decent new starters, the list has expanded quite a bit this week. One note on the starters. Several of them are around a 9 K/9 and 3 BB/9. To differentiate them, I’m using their groundball rate. I’m not 100% sure this is the right approach in this environment, but I’ll investigate his idea later this week. In the article, I cover the players using CBS’s (40% or less initial roster rate) and Yahoo’s ADD/DROP rates. Both hosting sites have ...

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is the betting favorite to win Comeback Player of the Year Would you take these odds? Whether or not the Dallas Cowboys will have success this coming season will obviously depend on a number of different factors. Most of the team’s resources in the offseason acquisition period have been devoted to the defensive side of the ball which makes sense given how porous it was last season. It is a teeny bit of a roll of the dice to assume that the offense will be fine w...

One word is rarely a window into the soul. But by saying so little, Mike Smith revealed so much about the competitive fire that rages in him with a response to a question earlier this month. Reporter: “Is there extra satisfaction for you putting probably the final nail in Calgary’s playoff hopes here?” Smith: “Yup.” “To say Mike Smith is very competitive, that’s probably an understatement,” said Marty Turco, Smith’s former teammate on the Dallas Stars and one of his close frie...

Rob Brown/Getty Images Montana earned the nickname “Joe Cool” for staying calm when the stakes were high. The story is that before he led the Niners on that winning 92-yard drive against the Bengals in the Super Bowl he pointed out John Candy in the stands to his teammates. He was known for his come-from-behind wins, which helped him to two MVPs and three Super Bowl MVPs. Montana made an All-Pro team six times, and he was efficient for his era. Montana led the league in completion pe...

Ranking the 49ers by positional strength after the 2021 NFL Draft Let’s take a look at the Niners’ roster and how it stacks up now that we’re past the NFL Draft Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports Despite finishing 6-10, the expectations for the San Francisco 49ers are sky-high heading into the 2021 season. I saw one power ranking have the Niners as high as No. 3 in the league, which feels rich. The massive trade up to the third overall pick will ultimately determine the fate of this team. S...

The good, the bad and the mettle to persevere Peter Goodman Thursday the NFL started its draft. In reverse order of last season’s finish (absent trades), each team picks a top college player. There are seven rounds over three days. In 2005 the San Francisco 49ers had first choice, which meant they’d fallen on hard times. I hoped they’d draft Aaron Rodgers, quarterback at nearby Berkeley. Aaron and others thought they would; but quarterback Alex Smith of Utah, got the call. That call made ...

Photo by Joe Prior/Visionhaus/Getty Images Jordan Morris is almost certainly going to miss all of the 2021 season after tearing his left ACL while on loan to Swansea City during the Seattle Sounders offseason, Garth Lagerwey acknowledged on Tuesday. This had long been the assumption and no one in the organization has ever strongly refuted this likelihood, but these comments are a more blunt than how the Sounders spoke about Morris’ previous ACL injury and apparently reflect a more severe inju...
