Teacher in the School District. I know first hand what its like to work and send your kids to school. And second hand what its like to go to school in the School District. We are facing tremendous challenges financially. I am really glad that we have the opportunity to provide funding and support to bring flexibility to the budget for the School District. I am glad we have a plan in place to target the funds to provide. Hopefully we will. Targeting students at risk not graduating from school. To me its critical. And matches a lot of policies we put forward as a city. At how we make the investments and be sure that we do the prevention work for young people to find success in our local job market. There is a discussion about reserves and other funding and choices we make as a city. Supervisor kim mentioned the Revolving Loan fund, and we made a decision to provide loans for Small Businesses. That was a decision that we made with our funding as a city. Actually very interesting today and
I will call other speaker cards remaining. Monica florez mrs. Yong. Rene antavares. Please approach the mic. Hello, i am the education advocate for chinese education. And i work with a lot of chinese families with English Learners. And the data shows that 69 of English Learners in 11th grade are missing requirements or off track to graduate in 2014. And thats overwhelming over 500 student. And because of the additional english classes the students have to take. They are unable to fulfill the requirements and therefore they need the additional funding for the credits. The families need the guidance for the necessary requirements to graduate and apply for college. We are here to ask for the committee to support this supplementation for Credit Recovery and for the resources for class 2014. So that all students get the necessary resources and opportunities to graduate. Thank you. Good afternoon, i am kevin bogus and i work with advocates for children youth. The holy cross. Not just because of the event at its beginning. It was on this day 169 years ago the college at its formal opening it was to seek the blessing after which the faculty toasted the health of the founder of boston with a good glass of wine. The following class is opened with six students. This evening our numbers are considerably larger and among them in the audience are our congressman jim mcgovern, also marybeth mcmahon, Senior Vice President of the Special Olympics massachusetts, virginia swain, returned peace corps coordinator and kathy, peace corps recruiter representing the holy cross. To the special guests and to everyone, a warm welcome. We also need to note the absence of the holy cross jr. Kenneth jordan the head of the local chapter of the knights of columbus whose brother died in an auto accident two days ago. Ken and his fellow knights have put forth this evenings event and she had been anticipating it eagerly. This evening it is a particular pleasure to welco
Second. May we have a reading of it. Yes, i would like to ask the chief officer david golden to do the read. Thank you. It is the most exciting time of the year again, where we bring the annual report for the collection of Developer Impact fees, which is a statutory requirement, required each year, under the government code, which we faithfully, follow and do. And the requirement, essentially involves, several procedural things, including posting of a copy of the report from the board office, putting it online, on the web and having an outside consultant perform the report and bring it to the board of education for passage and review. And so this is an annual event. And just as a brief summary, you may remember historically in the last five years, our developer fee collection was low because the economic climate of both the nation and the world was wo ful. It is a good indication, for both the School Districts and i think, the city and San Francisco, in general. That last year, we went
Less than that because we do believe that many of the students will be able to complete option one. Commissioner wynns . I had a discussion of the at the committee of the whole meeting but i think that this we are going to pursue, this is a big israelsue issue, and again, one of the disincentives to encourage the students to stay for a 5th year taken care of through the waiver work and that is it will be different and, it will be a different part of our district accountabilities system. I understand that that is not why we did it, but it made Everything Else harder, i mean the state and all kinds of things were really making it practically impossible to have fifth year plans for students, but, so that issue about, if we could say to the kids, now what we say to them, here is your option and it is Continuation High School because it is the only way to get those credits in there so that you can graduate on time and if we could do better about suggesting you will be far more likely to be
