Mangaluru: The department of zoology, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) College, Udupi conducted a comprehensive butterfly survey on Monday.

Various events like drawing competitions, talks, butterfly walks and species mapping programmes will be organised in September and butterfly observation will also be registered with the help of citizens

The first butterfly survey program of the museum was on Saturday jointly organized by Bhopal Birds and Regional Museum of Natural History, Bhopal. The purpose of this survey was to identify the butterfly species found in the museum premises. This survey was based on the Citizen Science Initiative.

The survey was conducted in collaboration with Madhya Pradesh Biodiversity Board, Regional Museum of Natural History, Bhopal, Bhopal Birds and VNS Nature Saviour on Sunday.

Whilst birdwatching in the Tanoumah area recently I came across a Common Grass Yellow butterfly  Eurema hecabe. They are also known as ‘Large Grass Yellows’ or ‘Grass Yellows’ and are small to medium butterflies that are found in Africa, Arabia, Asia, South Pacific islands and Australia.
