Eugene Bernard Gene Smith, age 85, of Powder Springs, Georgia passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2020. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta with Rev. Mike Stephens officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 20th from 2:00 pm until 3pm at the funeral home. Born in Asheville, NC, Mr. Smith lived in Cobb County for most of his life. He served in the North Carolina National Guard, then worked for the State of Georgia as a Computer Programmer for 25 years before retirement. He was a member of Burnt Hickory Baptist Church, where he attended the Jimmy Allen Life Group. He also enjoyed the fellowship of his Cell Group Bible Study, and he had a compassionate heart for the homeless. Survivors include: Wife of 34 years, Judy McCall Smith; Son, Ryan Smith; Step Daughter, Mary Frances Baird; Grandchildren, Tristan Hayes, Garrett Shoemake, Abbey Shoemake and Charles Kirk; Sister, Patty
