Timnath voters on Tuesday were resoundingly rejecting a measure that would have effectively nullified the final 188.5-acre annexation for the massive Ladera mixed-use development by prohibiting the town from annexing areas being used for mining until reclamation work is complete.

Even though passage of a citizen-initiated ballot issue on April 2 could delay or unravel plans for the massive Ladera mixed-use project, the Timnath Town Council on Tuesday chose not to wait for the results, unanimously approving the final 188.5-acre annexation, planned unit development overlay and rezoning for the development.

The stage is set for a final public hearing on annexing land into Timnath for the Ladera development that includes Connell's asphalt mining plant.

The measure asks voters to change the town charter to prohibit the town from annexing properties with open mining permits until reclamation is done.
