An Ayer man was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Boston for committing a cyberattack against the computer network of his former employer, a public high school in Essex County.

Former New Jersey public high school IT manager Conor LaHiff has entered a guilty plea for hacking the school's Apple and IT administrator accounts to disrupt its operations in retaliation to his termination in June, reports BleepingComputer.

An Ayer man, charged with a cyberattack on a school computer network in Essex County, pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court. After realizing he had already been hired at a new school, the judge ordered that he must also inform any prospective employers of his guilty plea.

Conor LaHiff, 30, allegedly disabled the school’s phone system for 24 hours and deactivated thousands of network user accounts.
