For the first time Indianapolis has a black equity theater company. The Naptown African American Theatre Collective was officially formed earlier this year. Its putting on its first full production this week at the Phoenix Theatre Cultural Center downtown.

Many donors who support Indianapolis arts organizations are asking the same question during a time of significant turnover in leadership: “Are things going to change?”

The Phoenix will continue to bring in more voices through its collective organizations, which will bring in work by Pulitzer-winning playwrights.
