Prosecutors say Nathan Poole was high on marijuana when he drove into a crosswalk and struck the two women. Cases in which drivers are charged with killing someone while high on marijuana are rare and can be challenging to prove because there's no legal standard for how much marijuana is too much for driving.

A jury of 12 Virginia Beach citizens began deliberating late Wednesday afternoon in the case of the Commonwealth v. Nathan Poole.

Poole, 26, was convicted on DUI charges related to a deadly crash in Virginia Beach on August 22, 2022.

Nathan Poole allegedly crashed into 76-year-old Rosa Blanco and another 79-year-old woman as they used a crosswalk near Tupelo Honey in 2022. Blanco was killed.

Monday morning, crews started to demolish a section of the former mall, making way for Pembroke Square. Developers said demolition is expected to take 3 - 4 months.

The hostelry will be a 108-room Residence Inn by Marriott located next to West Monroe Sports & Event.

A spacious house built in 1965 located in the 2200 block of Constitution Drive in San Jose has new owners. The 2,566-square-foot property was sold on Dec. 22, 2023. The $2,450,000 purchase price works out to $955 per square foot.

The total $19.5 million funding package for Phase 1 of the VB trail is for a 3.2-mile-long, 10-foot-wide paved shared use path that will connect Virginia Beach's western border with Norfolk.
