The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said construction site thefts are picking up again, and the most recent one left a company out almost $100,000 worth of equipment.

Guelph police say someone broke into a north-west building under construction on the weekend and stole drills and saws among other tools.

A trio of Arizona thieves was arrested last year for a crime sequence in Mesa and Tempe that fell into the “insult to injury” category: stealing a Caterpillar front-end loader from a construction site, then using it to knock down a credit union’s walls so they could make off with its ATM. The loader was left at the scene and the three were arrested before they could open the ATM.

Thieves have been treating construction sites in northwest Omaha like their own building supply store.
