GOLDSBORO, N.C. (AP) An elderly North Carolina man has died in a Wednesday night house fire, a sheriff’s office said. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said no suspicious or criminal activity is suspected in the death of Claro Grantham, 81, WITN reported. According to the sheriff’s office, authorities were called to the man’s home on Corbett Hill Road outside of Mount Olive shortly before 10 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find the home in.

All transit service is canceled, major roadways are closed. and hundreds of thousands are without power.
A dangerous mix of snow and ice hammered much of the region late Friday and early Saturday, forcing TriMet to cease operations, as well as shut down many roads, and knock out power for hundreds thousands of people. Mass vaccination clinics were also canceled for Saturday and Sunday in Portland.

Early Saturday morning, TriMet announced that all MAX and bus service has been temporarily suspended until further notice due to the weather conditions, including LIFT paratransit service. Severe weather with temperatures below or only slightly above freezing is expected to continue through Sunday, Feb. 14 with more snow and freezing rain possible in the afternoon. The State of Emergency declared by Oregon Gov. Kate Brown on Saturday remains in effect, with temperatures not expected to rise much above freezing until Monday morning, at the earliest.
