Today ethanol has found its way into a range of applications from its original application as a beverage (wine and beer). It is used as a fuel, a chemical solvent, a disinfectant (hand sanitizer), in pharmaceuticals, cleaning, production of renewable hydrogen, cosmetics, perfumes, and as a feedstock for the production of chemicals.

Fuel sourced from living matter could greatly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. Companies are working on solutions that dont undermine biodiversity in the process.

The Renewable Fuels Association is actively engaged in the national sustainable aviation fuel conversation and are watching to be sure that corn ethanol is being treated fairly when being evaluated as an ethanol source for SAF.

The biofuel industry is eagerly awaiting the Biden administration’s update of a model that will be used to measure the carbon intensity of sustainable aviation feedstocks and determine their eligibility for a valuable new tax incentives. But industry officials caution that the update is only one in several policy actions that will be needed to get SAF production off the ground.

Unfortunately, none of the Republican candidates want to scrap the federal ethanol mandates.
