A man has died after an oak tree collapsed 20ft down a steep embankment onto a houseboat in Cornwall last night.  Emergency services, including an inshore lifeboat, rushed to the scene at Sailors Creek, Flushing, near Falmouth, at around 5.30pm to reports that the falling oak, which sounded like a massive earthquake, had crashed onto a boat.  The man in his 50s, who was trapped in the wreckage, was brought to the shore by the Coastguard Rescue Team where he was pronounced dead at the scene....

Three houses had to be evacuated this afternoon after a major fire broke out in Porthleven.  People living in the port were warned to keep their doors and windows shut as smoke filled the air.  Fire crews from Helston and Mullion, along with two flexi-duty officers, were first called just before 2.10pm today. Firefighters from seven stations across Cornwall were called to battle a fire at a takeaway business last night that had spread to two floors. The first call to Fore Street in Pool was received at 10.02pm on Thursday, New Years Eve. A delivery driver has suffered a nightmare before Christmas after his van rolled over a quay wall and into the water this afternoon. Reported by onlookers to be delivering parcels for Amazon, the driver was said to have inadvertently left the handbrake off when he got out to drop one off to a recipient.
