The two most recognizable surnames in the race for District 3 City Council represent one South Side political dynasty and another that is potentially budding.
Tomas Uresti, a former Harlandale ISD school board member and state legislator, is the brother of Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector Albert Uresti and former state Sen. Carlos Uresti.
Phyllis Viagran, a trainer in technology usage at Senior Planet, is the sister of District 3 City Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran, who has represented the southeast district very well for eight years and is termed out.

The race for the District 1 City Council seat pits a talented incumbent against a talented challenger and both are willing to rock the boat.
We recommend the challenger,
Mario Bravo, as an opportunity to add an energetic fresh voice and policy-rich perspective to the district, which includes most of downtown, the Alamo, Hemisfair Park and some of Brackenridge Park.
Councilman Roberto Treviño was appointed to the seat in 2014 and has been elected three times since, including in 2019, when despite facing eight challengers, he avoided a runoff by garnering nearly 60 percent of the vote. He faces five challengers this year.

SAN ANTONIO After months of delays and debate, the San Antonio City Council approved a revamped version of the plan to remake Alamo Plaza in a meeting Thursday.
One of the big issues with the plan was the debate over whether to move the famous Alamo Cenotaph. The revised plan approved by the Alamo City Advisory Council called for repairs to the Cenotaph but not move it down Alamo Street. Portions of that road would close from Houston to Crockett by June 1, only allowing access to commercial vehicles and first responders.
