The two most recognizable surnames in the race for District 3 City Council represent one South Side political dynasty and another that is potentially budding.
Tomas Uresti, a former Harlandale ISD school board member and state legislator, is the brother of Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector Albert Uresti and former state Sen. Carlos Uresti.
Phyllis Viagran, a trainer in technology usage at Senior Planet, is the sister of District 3 City Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran, who has represented the southeast district very well for eight years and is termed out.
