Holy Family Hospital was recently awarded an ‘A’ and the “Top General Hospital” designation for achieving the highest national standards in patient safety. The ranking comes from The Leapfrog Group’s Fall 2020 Hospital Safety Grades. It recognizes Holy Family’s efforts in protecting patients from harm and providing safer health care. Holy Family is one of only two community hospitals in Massachusetts, and one of only 29 in the nation to be awarded the elite “Top General Hospital” designation. The designation is based on hospital performance in clinical areas including preventing infections, reducing unnecessary C-sections, avoiding medication errors, maternity care and safe surgery.

Region in a Minute: School launches drive to help students' families

Dec 21, 2020 Dec 21, 2020 HAVERHILL— The Whittier Tech Educational Foundation has launched its annual holiday fund drive to support students and families facing hardships over the holidays. The fund provides an opportunity for community members to give to Whittier Regional High School students and their families who are in need during the holiday season. Donations pay for grocery store gift cards, clothing, gifts for students and siblings, and essential items if a student has an extenuating circumstance. The fund helps students and families in need not just during the holiday season, but throughout the year when needs arise. While any amount you can give will help, three suggested levels of giving are: $75, Adopt a Whittier Student; $175, Adopt a Whittier family and $300, Holiday Hero. Visit the donation site at foundation.whittiertech.org.

Three community giants were recognized for achievements at Tuesday night’s Haverhill City Council meeting. Among them, John L. Michitson cited a handful of Cuneo’s achievements during his time in office. “He helped establish Emmaus as the city’s first homeless shelter. He started the city’s first substance abuse prevention program. He organized surplus food distributions and that is only a sampling of what John Cuneo has done.
