After securing wage increases and mandated daily room cleanings at major Las Vegas resort properties last year, Culinary Workers Local 226 is warning 7,700 workers will strike Feb. 2 if remaining strip and downtown properties don’t meet similar contract demands.

With a couple hours to spare, a strike on the Las Vegas Strip was averted this year as Culinary Workers Local 226 announced a tentative contract agreement with Wynn Resorts.

Wynn Resorts and the Culinary Union reached a tentative five-year contract agreement Friday, becoming third major operator reach a deal and end fears of a strike on the Strip.

Caesars Entertainment and the Culinary Union reached a tentative agreement on a new five-year early Wednesday morning, potentially averting a walkout by 10,000 workers at nine Strip properties.

After months of negotiating with MGM Resorts, Caesars, Resorts World and Wynn, Culinary Union Secretary-Treasurer Ted Pappageorge announced on Thursday that the union has officially set a deadline for Nov. 10 at 5 a.m.

Culinary officials say the two sides are far apart on the union’s calls for higher pay, better benefits and lighter workloads for housekeepers.

The Culinary will have informational pickets in front Strip resorts on Thursday operated by MGM and Caesars and the union is asking visitors to not cross the lines.

Results of the vote would authorize negotiating committees to call for a strike by some 53,000 non-gaming Strip and downtown casino employees.
