Islington students pandemic mood memes appear in artwork

Published: 1:56 PM May 7, 2021    # bored (rain) is one of the student memes that contributed to the digital artwork - Credit: Courtesy of Culture Mile Pupils across north London have created digital and hand drawn memes to show how they felt during lockdown as part of an interactive artwork.  The idea came from Ella James, head of art and design at City of London Academy Highbury Grove. Inspired by artists such as Andy Warhol and Barbara Kruger, she developed the project during the recent lockdown, teaching students how to use a range of media to describe their mood at a challenging time.

The governing body which runs The Square Mile unveiled plans to work with the property industry to refurbish and develop deserted buildings, including for culture, retail, hospitality and start-ups. The announcement comes as many office workers have permanently adopted remote work during the pandemic, leaving prime real estate vacant in Britain s historic financial centre. The corporation s head of planning and transportation, Alastair Moss, said the City – home to some of the world s major blue chip firms – would adapt and prove resilient .

As we plough ahead with plans to relax the lockdown, there is nothing more exciting than the prospect of a London filled with people once more, when we can get on with the business of being London’s Museum once again.
