Senior citizens in Gillette got a pleasant surprise on Valentine’s Day.

Wish of a Lifetime from AARP, AARP Hawai‘i and Kaunoa Meals on Wheels hand delivered about 500 roses and 500 hand-made Valentine’s cards to kupuna on Maui.

AARP volunteers in East Hawai’i created 200 handmade Valentine’s Day cards that were given to the Hawai’i County Nutrition Program to be distributed Wednesday with residents’ meals.

AARP Hawaiʻi and Kaunoa Meals on Wheels will hand deliver about 500 roses and handmade Valentine’s Day cards to kūpuna on Maui. It’s part of the national Cupid Crew effort to deliver more than 170,000 roses and 35,000 cards to older adults, fostering intergenerational connections with those who may be at risk for social isolation.
