Squally winds are expected over West Bengal Coast and adjoining Odisha. This will give heavy rains over parts of East India, which have been waiting for some rains. Weather will be inclement over West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh in the next 24 hours.
The region, which occupies just 0.6% of the global ocean area, is estimated to be responsible for four out of five cyclone-related deaths in the world.
The system is expected to see further intensification and may become a well marked low and a depression subsequently. Since the system in close proximity of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, heavy to very heavy rains are expected over Bay Islands including Port Bliar, Hut Bay, Long Island, Car Nicobar etc for at least the next two to three days or so.
April 2022 has gone down the records like the preceding years 2020 & 2021 without any cyclone developing over the Indian Seas. Cyclone threat did come up during 2nd week of April but fizzled out under unfavourable environmental conditions.
Any powerful systems like tropical storms carry risk of disturbing the usual wind pattern and leave lot of lead time for restoration of normalcy. Monsoon onset under normal conditions of strengthening of trade winds, which in turn accelerates the cross equatorial flow is considered ideal for smooth beginning.
