Following the resignations of two former councilmembers in 2022, Evanston will hold a special City Council election April 4 to confirm who will fill the 2nd and 9th ward seats until 2025. Typically, City Council members serve four-year terms. The most recent elections were held in April 2021 and saw the election of four new.
Evanston residents will officially observe Election Day on April 4. On the ballot are the 2nd and 9th Ward City Council seats, as well as three open seats on the Evanston/Skokie School District 65 Board of Education and four on the Evanston Township High School District 202 Board. Both the Evanston/Skokie School District 65 and the Evanston Township High School District 202 Boards of Education have seats up for grabs in the upcoming election this April. The District 65 and District 202 boards each comprise seven members who serve four-year terms. This year, two incumbents and three challengers are contending for three positions.
Chicago will hold municipal elections for all offices, including mayor, city treasurer and alderpeople, on Feb. 28. Students over 18 years old who are registered at a permanent Chicago address and have been a Chicago resident for over 30 days can vote in this election. This year is the first in which Chicagoans will vote.
