BAD AXE The Bad Axe City Council made its next step in its search for a new city manager this week.
The council appointed a four-member committee that will review job applications they receive, conduct job interviews, and make their recommendation for a new city manager.
The committee members are Bad Axe Mayor Kathleen Particka and council members Eric Goebel, Steve Perez, and Nick Rochefort.
Outgoing City Manager Dale VanDeVusse announced his retirement from the role in October, having served the role for the past 11 years. He said the committee would like to find a replacement by the end of March, when he is set to retire, though he mentioned he would be willing to stay on longer to help with the transition process.

BAD AXE Like plenty of other places in Huron County, Bad Axe City Hall has had to close its doors and have employees work from home during this year’s pandemic.
Dale VanDeVusse, the Bad Axe city manager, said that city hall has had its doors closed to the public for the better part of the year, with a drop box located outside for residents to drop their bills off.
“It’s worked out pretty good for us, though it s not as friendly as having our doors open,” VanDeVusse said. “We’ve been able to bring people in for face-to-face appointments when needed.”
