The Dallas City Council wants voters to approve a bond package worth more than $1 billion. The money would go towards numerous improvements across the city, including street improvements.
Some of the proposed fee increases are enormous, especially compared to Dallas suburbs, and industry leaders say that could cause a developer to potentially delay or move a project elsewhere at a time when affordable options are greatly needed in Dallas.
Some councilmembers say legalizing gambling statewide would be a way to help fund the still-struggling Dallas police and fire pension while others say they are concerned that gambling amounts to a tax on the poor.
The Dallas City Council is expected to approve a $2.3 million contract to expand homeless outreach services with Housing Forward, the organization that replaced the Metro Dallas Housing Alliance. It says it is making significant process, although it is slower than everyone would like.
Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia told city council members the majority of murders are done by people either committing other crimes or engaging in high-risk behavior.
