Litter danger to horses could see Beckhampton Gallops closed to public | The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald

The owner of the Beckhampton Gallops, popular with hundreds of dog walkers, says he may close off access to the public - because of littering. Roger Charlton trains around 100 race horses - including the Queen s horses - every day on the land between the A4 towards Calne and A361 towards Devizes. But he says increased amounts of litter has become dangerous for his horses and riders, and he has even been threatened with violence by walkers. I am very loathe to do it, said Roger from the Beckhampton stables near the roundabout who owns the land in question. But there is a real danger to both horses and riders, and I just don t think people realise. I cannot afford to have an accident caused by this. I really do not want to close this area off, but I must put the health and safety of those working for me first.

A petri dish for innovation : how 10 years of Turner Contemporary have impacted Margate | Art and design

Last modified on Fri 16 Apr 2021 09.44 EDT In the summer of 2020, anti-racism marchers arrived on the steps of the Turner Contemporary in Margate while it was hosting the exhibition We Will Walk – Art and Resistance in the American South. The march’s organisers were the artists and founders of People Dem Collective, Kelly Abbott and Victoria Barrow Williams, who were disappointed at the exhibition’s American focus because, as they put it: “So much was lost. We’re not from Alabama, we’re from Thanet [in Kent] … and our lived experience is about being erased.” They suggested that the gallery could make the show more relevant.
