Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace David Cobos released details on Dan Corrales's death after he was charged to conduct an inquest on a deceased person.

According to Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Judge David M. Cobos, Councilman Corrales' death was accidental and not suicide.

The special election was signed into effect by Midland Mayor Lori Blong and will be on May 4.

The funeral service for late City Councilman Dan Corrales was held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and Shrine at 2 p.m.

The council will vote on Feb. 13. If approved, the special election to fill the vacant at-large seat will take place on May 4.

Midland, Texas is mourning the loss of City Councilman Dan Corrales, a respected attorney and Assistant District Attorney. In addition to his professional roles, he was actively involved in nonprofits and had a strong presence in the community.

The funeral service is set to take place at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church at 2 p.m. There will also be a visitation the day before from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

On Feb. 3, Rescue Runners will be dedicated to the memory of Dan Corrales and "his love and dedication to the animals of Midland."
