Georgetown County recorded 12.75 inches of rain between the night of Dec. 16 and the morning of Dec. 18 from the storm, which was more than officials expected.

Pawleys Island could be getting some funding for beach restoration. According to Pawleys Island Mayor Brian Henry, the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism will be requesting $7 million in non-recurring funding in the 2024-25 fiscal year budget for areas that need beach renourishment.

In the face of lawsuits and accusations of “secret” arrangements, Pawleys Island Town Council is considering a resolution that details the town’s partnership with the Army Corps of Engineers on beach renourishment projects.

Cherry Grove Pier, in North Myrtle Beach, was split in half by storm surge caused by Hurricane Ian, and construction is still at least a couple months from being completed.

A second Prince George boardwalk collapsed during high tide this month.

"I dont even want to consider the scenario if were into September and havent completed this work yet," Town Administrator Dan Newquist said.
