Three law firms have filed a class-action lawsuit on behalf of other Minnesotans who, like Geraldine Tyler, lost out on recouping their home’s equity after it was seized for unpaid property taxes.

Several Minnesota attorneys are seeking to file a class action suit on behalf of homeowners who say their property was unfairly seized.

A recent Supreme Court decision in a case involving Hennepin County’s seizure and sale of a 94-year-old woman’s condo could unleash a torrent of lawsuits from homeowners in Minnesota.

“What Republicans are doing right now is playing stupid games, they are not negotiating,” said Omar, who is deputy chair of the Progressive Caucus. “The default that they are threatening is a horror show.”

The Supreme Court on Thursday sided with a 94-year-old Minnesota grandmother whose house was seized by the county and sold for it profit over a small unpaid tax bill. 

The nation's highest court has sided with a Minnesota woman in her property rights battle against Hennepin County.

Geraldine Tyler owed $15,000 in taxes and penalties before the county seized the condo and sold it for $40,000.
