The Carlsbad Cavegirl softball team beat Farmignton Piedra Vista, 6-0, in a rematch Saturday to claim the 5A state title.

At the meet, the girls 200-yard freestyle relay team qualified for state with a first place finish and time of 1:52.26.

On Friday, the Carlsbad Cavemen will host the Hobbs Eagles.

Emelia Goodale and Tylen Gonzalez were crowned Homecoming Queen and King, respectively, from Carlsbad High School.

Next Monday, at 3 p.m., we will be paying tribute to Officer Jarrott and other officers from Eddy County who have died in the line of duty.

On Tuesday, we had a great visit from Naveed Merchant. Naveed and his brother, Sameer, are the co-owners of the Papa John’s Pizza in Carlsbad.
