Last week, the Utah Department of Transportation recommended a gondola for Little Cottonwood Canyon to combat the paralyzing skier traffic that often spills out into surrounding neighborhoods.

The Utah Department of Transportation, or UDOT, selected a gondola for Little Cottonwood Canyon in August. The gondola, if built, will take skiers and snowboarders up to Alta and Snowbird.

With UDOT rounding the corner on its antidote to Little Cottonwood Canyons traffic woes, several Utah lawmakers say the decision-making process requires additional scrutiny.

State Rep. Gay Lynn Bennion, D-Cottonwood Heights, requested an audit of the Utah Department of Transportation to see how outside influences impact projects. UDOT is considering a gondola or enhanced bus service up Little Cottonwood Canyon. Alta, Snowbird, Ski Utah and some state lawmaker favor the gondola, while many local politicians do not.
