“Overall it is very clear that Airdrie wants to see a UCP government, and that happened here tonight,” Pitt told the Airdrie City View, shortly after being declared the projected winner. “I do feel strong support from the community. I spent tons of hours at the doors, walked many steps, and talked to many people. The people of Airdrie were pretty clear that they want to see a strong economy led by a strong, stable government."

For nearly two hours, the four candidates – incumbents Angela Pitt and Peter Guthrie from the United Conservative Party (UCP) as well as challengers Shaun Fluker and Daniel Nelles from the New Democratic Party (NDP) – took questions pertaining to several political topics, such as health care, public education, infrastructure, affordable housing, the cost of living crisis, and Alberta's energy sector, among others.

Airdrie-East NDP candidate Dan Nelles is hoping to represent the community at the provincial government following the election.

“There's always change, and with that, there's always a lot of pressure points that we need to try and stay on top of,” Pitt said. “Airdrie in particular is obviously the best place to live, work, and raise a family, so it's no secret it grows so fast.”

Airdrie-East's NDP candidate argued the Feb. 28 budget falls short of satisfying Airdrie and area's infrastructural needs, particularly in the realms of education and health care.
