In 1945, Daniel McGovern was sent to photograph the aftermath of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings.

Daniel A. McGovern, who was born in Co Monaghan in 1908, went on to become a lieutenant colonel in the US Air Force and President Roosevelt's designated cameraman and photographer. The Irish man's life is explored in Joe McCabe's "Rebels to Reels: A biography of Combat Cameraman Daniel A McGovern."
