Harl has provided a gift commitment of $2 million to help establish the endowed Dr. Neil Harl Opportunity Scholarship, which will provide support for students who wish to attend the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Friends, colleagues and former students of the renowned Iowa State University professor have also contributed to the scholarship and additional donations are being sought to further honor Harl’s legacy.

AMES, Iowa — Matthew Helmers, professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering at Iowa State University and director of the Iowa Nutrient Research Center, has been named the inaugural recipient of the Brent and Cindy Hart Professorship in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Helmers was presented the professorship at a May 6 medallion ceremony hosted by Daniel J. Robison, holder of the Endowed Dean’s Chair in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
