There’s an urgent need for foster parents while confirmed and suspected canine influenza cases rise across the Las Vegas Valley.

One animal shelter has had a dog test positive for a form of influenza that presents symptoms akin to “kennel cough,” including sneezing and persistent coughing.

The Henderson Animal Shelter announced Wednesday it decided to enforce a temporary halt on accepting animals after it confirmed a case of the canine influenza virus in a shelter dog.

The city of Henderson said in a news release that a dog at the city’s animal shelter was diagosed with canine Pneumovirus — a disease that makes dogs cough and sneeze.

The City of Henderson Animal Care and Control decided to modify operations at the Henderson Animal Shelter after a dog contracted a contagious respiratory virus.
