Amid dropping enrollment, Jeffco Public Schools’ move to close two K-8 schools over parent opposition brings the total number of school closures in the district to 21 since 2021. 

As Jeffco deals with declining enrollment, Pomona High School and Moore Middle School will merge into a single 6-12 school. The school board unanimously approved the plan.

Over the summer, the members of a Facebook group called Jeffco Kids First began shifting their  concern away from pandemic policies in  schools to identities it deemed disruptive to learning. A leading voice in the group told parents to empower their children to find “furries,” kids who dress up in animal accessories, and to record them.

Jeffco school board members may recalibrate the cost and extent of the upgrades when they have better enrollment projections in January or February.

Jeffco votes to close Fitzmorris Elementary at the end of this school year after learning the school would have less than 100 students in the fall.

Contributions to Colorado school board candidates would be limited to $2,500 from individual donors, if a bill in the House becomes law.

While Colorado conservatives took their lumps on the home front in this years election, losing bids to lower property tax rates and increase oversight of the process of spending taxpayer
