Southern Indiana drivers expecting to use the Sherman Minton bridge to cross into Louisville got an unpleasant surprise early Monday.

The bridge spanning over the Ohio River connecting Louisville to southern Indiana closed Friday afternoon "until further notice."

The Sherman Minton Bridge will be back open on Wednesday.

NEW ALBANY — About 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, officials from the Sherman Minton Renewal project sent out a news release saying they will reopen the bridge to traffic Wednesday.

The Sherman Minton Bridge reopened to traffic early Wednesday morning

The bridge spanning over the Ohio River connecting Louisville to southern Indiana closed Friday afternoon "until further notice."

Southern Indiana and Louisville drivers will still need to find alternate routes as the Sherman Minton Bridge remains closed.

The closure of the Sherman Minton Bridge on Interstate 64 was announced late last week. The bridge remained closed as of Monday morning.
