Due to the inability to create a site plan that will preserve the southwest well field, the Municipal Utilities Commission on Monday unanimously approved a memo to the Willmar City Council opposing the sale of the parkland.
The project would likely be completed in phases over a period of 12 to 15 years. There are two route options, and which one is chosen will depend on the route the city of Willmar recommends.
The Willmar City Council decision that will be made at its Monday, July 17, meeting will allow Willmar Municipal Utilities to move forward with its long-term plans that have been delayed for months due to council indecision.
Members of the Willmar Municipal Utilities Commission took one last tour of the power plant to analyze if there is anything left worth keeping. Many items with historic value have been salvaged ahead of the planned demolition of the plant next year.
