The indie rocker's guitar playing conveys a confidence in making music — even when the songs themselves detail doubt and vulnerability. Untame the Tiger is her first solo album in 15 years.

The 54-year-old singer-songwriter, who came to prominence with her Boston art-rock trio Helium in the 1990s, is out with “Untame the Tiger.” She worked on the album during a four-year period where her parents died and a 12-year relationship ended. “Not to be dramatic, but that was all I had,” she said.
