FORT WALTON BEACH The city s website lists the Bay Drive Water Access as a neighborhood park, set aside for the public to enjoy as a location for passive recreation.
What was at one time a more expansive recreational area now consists of a single park bench overlooking a small swath of white sand fronting Choctawhatchee Bay that s about as wide as the roadway whose name it shares.
Many who live in the affluent neighborhood near where Brooks Street and Bay Drive meet have a great affinity for the water access. They say it offers a perfect location to launch kayaks and paddle boards or simply to take in a sunset. Some recall days spent at the beach, which they say has been listed as a recreational area since 1945, with children and grandchildren.

MOMENT OF MADNESS PHOTOS WILL CAUSE GLOBAL DAMAGE TO RACING
March 3, 2021 11:53 am
By Matt Stewart, Racing Editor
Just as horrid photos of shameful racing men straddling dead horses in Ireland has reached every corner of the planet via social media, the damage will be inflicted throughout the racing world.
It doesn’t matter that the images of champion trainer Gordon Elliott and jockey Rob James whooping it up on these carcasses originated somewhere in Ireland, nor that they are dated – the James photo was apparently taken in 2016 – nor that Elliott and James are ashamed and remorseful.
People invested in racing might acknowledge these things, and that racehorses are mostly loved and protected, but to anyone beyond the fringe of the sport, the images are beyond context and location.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) Keeping students and staff safe is the main priority for schools around Monroe County. While schools are no longer required to test 20% of in-person students and staff for COVID-19 monthly, many say they’re going to keep testing. Our testing has been going really smooth, we ve been hitting the percentage we need in our schools, we haven t had any positive cases, students or staff,” Dave Yates said, communications director for the East Irondequoit School District.
Yates says if they are given guidance from the state to stop testing then they will at that point. East Irondequoit had three schools in orange testing at 30% and three in yellow that test at 20%. He says his district hit the ground running when they were first told they had to start testing.
