A teachers strike in a Boston suburb entered its eighth day Tuesday — one of the longest in recent state history — with both sides still unable to agree on salaries and other issues.

Newton’s is the longest educator strike thus far in a statewide wave that began in Malden and Haverhill in the fall of 2022. The sense of delay has bred acrimony on both sides of the contract dispute. But a judge is pushing for a resolution this weekend.

Ten posts appeared on the Newton Public Schools official Facebook page sharing details about contract negotiations.

Pay for educators — including teachers' assistants — a point of contention.

The union is also pressing forward with its strike despite a Middlesex Superior Court order to return to work and end their work stoppage.

Union leaders have pledged to keep the strike going if they have not brokered a new contract Sunday for its roughly 2,000 members.

Newton is just the latest school district in Massachusetts to be caught up in a wave of teacher strikes in the last 18 months. But with nearly 12,000 students and a per capita income over $90,000, it’s also the largest and most affluent of those to experience a strike.
