Ontario orders owner to fix pipe leaking dangerous gases, but he says their plan is too risky and expensive

SIR – However laudable the long-term cause of the Just Stop Oil demonstrators may be, their methods are serving only to alienate potential supporters, who are being denied their right to go about their lawful business.

SIR – Am I alone in struggling to understand why, instead of fracking for our own gas, we have decided to pay America to frack for its gas, liquefy it and ship it in tankers across the Atlantic, thus ensuring greater carbon-dioxide emissions, higher prices, and most of the employment, profits and tax revenues going to America (“Gas deal set to ease energy crisis”, report, November 8)?

SIR – If the Platinum Jubilee celebrations could be summed up in one word, that word would be duty:

SIR – The plans to cover an area “the size of Exmoor” with solar panels are just another example of woolly-headed government thinking on energy.

SIR – As the Russian army reaches stalemate against the brilliant Ukrainian defences, and we are faced with the possibility of Vladimir Putin resorting to ever more desperate tactics, both sides are being urged to reach some sort of compromise.

SIR – Your report (January 4) that more than 400 English churches have shut in less than a decade is shocking.

SIR – The NHS Test and Trace debacle (report, October 27) encapsulates everything that is wrong with big government.

A Leamington property owner says the discovery of a well that is leaking gas in the corner of one of his lots could cause him to lose his house and is fighting with the provincial government over who will pay the hefty bill to plug it.

SIR – Should our timorous Government really delay restoring our civil liberties on June 21, it will lose my vote – and, I’m sure, the votes of millions of other right-thinking people.
