Memorial Day is about remembering those who have fallen in battle. But the day’s parades are about remembering those still serving, which in one way or another is nearly all of us. It’s worth celebrating.

That was a nice column by David Moats reviewing Sen. Patrick Leahys career and new memoir, The Road Taken. But the opening line needed a bit more thought.It said, On Nov. 8, for the first time in 48 years, the name Patrick Leahy will not be on the ballot for U.S. Senate from Vermont.
