A religious school system in Massachusetts enacted a new policy that requires students to “conduct themselves” in a manner that corresponds with their biological sex, according to a statement from the diocese.

We must always respect the sacred dignity of each individual person, but that does not mean the church must accept the confused notions of secular gender ideology, says the diocese.

A new gender identity policy in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Worcester is receiving praise from the Catholic Action League of Massachusetts but strong condemnation from several state lawmakers.

The policy will affect more than 5,000 students who attend Catholic schools in the Diocese of Worcester in Massachusetts.

"We must always respect the sacred dignity of each individual person, but that does not mean the Church must accept the confused notions of secular gender ideology," the policy approved by Bishop Robert McManus said.

Under the policy, Catholic school students in Worcester may be dismissed if their gender or sexuality “should cause confusion or disruption."
