“I look forward with collaborating with everybody so we can work together and ensure this will continue to be a vibrant community,” Mogensen said.

“I think as a city we need to keep moving forward, and I think it’s going to be up to the Coastal Commission. I think we should go one step further and have a council member present at the meeting.” Councilwoman Debby Beck said.

The next steps will be for the city manager to hire a demographer, who will study the 2020 census and create a report on the city’s population including racial and ethnic backgrounds and socioeconomic characteristics.

In the agenda recommendation, city staff said the sidewalk extension would enhance driver and pedestrian visibility, shorten the length of crosswalks to reduce pedestrian exposure and improve drainage and sewage.

The city of Pacific Grove's subcommittee is proposing creating space for permanent sidewalk dining areas that will replace the current parklets.

The next step will be a staff report on how much the project will cost, the liability to the city, and what neighbors in the area think about the skatepark. The council members heard mixed reviews from the public, and debated the logistics of having a skatepark in a residential area at Wednesday's meeting.

Several council members pointed out that there were no supporters for the skate park at Wednesday’s meeting like there had been at past meetings.
