New Superintendent Kevin Maddoxs new contract officially took effect Sept. 11 — one day retroactively.

The overall 2024 budget is 3% less than the 2023 budget due to fewer capital expenditures planned, but projected general fund expenses are up 8%.

The Hoover Board of Education voted unanimously to hire Kevin Maddox, assistant superintendent for Homewood City Schools for the past 11 years.

The vote was unanimous, 5-0.

The board has called a special meeting for 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Farr Administration Building.

As the summer break comes to a close and students head back to Hoover public schools on Aug. 10, they’ll see some new faces in leadership positions and find some changes to their physical surroundings.

The Hoover City Schools Board of Education will soon begin searching for a new superintendent.

Superintendent Dee Fowler said he is ready to retire and move to his new home he built in Fairhope to be closer to grandchildren.
